History of the Giants

The Maryborough Giants is a newly formed Australian rules football and netball club, established at the end of the 2023 season through the amalgamation of two existing clubs:
Maryborough Rovers and Royal Park. The club began competing in the Maryborough Castlemaine District Football Netball League (MCDFNL) in the 2024 season.
Formation and Background
  • Merger: The formation of the Giants was a strategic decision to consolidate the local football talent in the Maryborough area and ensure the sustainability of the sport in the region.   Discussions and planning for the merger took place throughout 2023, culminating in the official announcement of the new club name.
  • Inaugural Season: The Giants made their long-awaited debut in April 2024, generating a significant buzz within the local community.               They had a strong start to their first season, with both football and netball teams performing well.
  • Club Identity: The club adopted the name “Giants” while making sure to honor the heritage and history of both legacy clubs.
